A little girl steps out of the darkened, windowless school into the bright afternoon. It's been a while since she's seen the sun. It seems so bright to her weakened eyes, that they have to squint to see.
She's been inside of that building for weeks and she misses the pure freedom and energy when you see the sky. She looks up into the blue canvas and watches a flock of little, brown birds fly over her head. She saw the never ending world and smiled. The little girl squealed and tried desperately to be as free as the birds that were soaring in the fresh air, by running with her arms up as wings. She soared directly into the wide open field, then let her body drop into the long, cushioned grass. As she caught her breath with a giggle, a few cotton clouds drift over head. One looks particularly like a butterfly, she decided.
She sat up still with a smile stretched across her face when she decided that she officially had done it. She was free. Around the corner of a tree in the near by forested area, a small fluttering butterfly glided on the wind. It was like nothing the girl has ever seen before. It was a full rainbow of colors, fading in and out on the edges of the wings. the inner parts of the wings were purple, blue, and green.
The girl slowly stood up as the butterfly fluttered her direction. Soon it was fluttering in circles around the little girl. She giggled and turned to look at it's beautiful wings as it circled her. The little girl held up her hand, and the butterfly slowly landed on it. The wings continued to leisurely flap up and down in a calming motion. The little girl giggled as it tickled her finger.
